Actuaries use dice

So says my second regular reader.

I had sent out a similarly worded e-mail to two of my readers. One lao jiao and one newbie. Just to poke see poke see what their reaction will be:

"Whilst "researching" for a blog post yesterday, I came across this:

http://www.warpuppy.com/chessex-speckled-polyhedral-stealth-p-103.html

and made an impulse purchase. *Grin*"

The old bird reader came back with this reply:

"Simplified mind of mine associates your profession with numbers. Ordinary dice for ordinary users. Actuarial professionals use the dice you just bought."

22 dicey days to go.

Yes, I agree... How do you actually get about rolling these dices?

With so many sides, probably need a magnifying glass to see what numbers come up....

Acey,... do you RPG? So, far the only use for these dices are for role-laying stats.... hehe :)

Ginger_ale,

Other than the four-sided one, everyone else just look at the top face loh. *Grin*

The four sided one look at the number at the top of the triangle.

CM,

Not so bad lah. The numbers printed are sizable. Can see one.

No, I don't RPG. Last time in secondary school, my friends introduced me to it. I played a little but I was more interested in the dice than in the game. :P

That website in the post is actually selling stuff for RPG games.

Acey,

Don't be a meanie...besides, you don't want Ginger going around asking people about role Laying stats do you??? LOL... :))

Ginger_Ale

Role Laying Stats may be interpreted as something XXX...

I meant Role Playing Stats... Briefly it's about role playing games like Dungeons & Dragons or Neverwinter Nights...

In computer games, you have things like Action Points, Health and Magic Points etc....

Back in the old days, ppl sat down in a dark room and role played ie. imagine they were in a fantasy environment...

To determine whether they are successful, the Dungeon Master will decide...[nowadays all automated with computer programs in Computer RPGs]

The dices are used to decide on certain issues like whether you are successful in opening a chest based on your attributes eg. strength

It gets real complicated [esp. with D10s, D20s.etc...] which explains why Acey likes the dices...

Ah ha, CM. I am not being mean. In fact, I believe Ginger_ale's silence means she got it liao.

Complicated means I like? I like the dice because of the different shapes. I think they look really neat.

Ginger...

How old are you anyway?
Gosh - you seem awfully young esp. since you don't seem to know anything about RPGs... very strange-leh...

NO... this is not an XXX rated discussion or anything like that... Like I said the earlier misunderstanding was a typo-lah...

Acey,

Hehe, I assume you like the D10s, D20s and D30s cos you can do the computations at the back of your head mah...

You ever seen the D100s? I believe that's the one you have to use a magnifying glass to read... [Not that I have ever seen it b4...

Yeah, I've seen the 100-sided die. But very the ugly. In fact, it looks "fake".

I don't have a 30-sided die. It looks pretty neat, but I know not why to find one. If you notice from the set I've ordered, the 20-sided die is the highest number of sides in the set.

Oh, and erm I don't use the dice for any computations. Not at all!

In fact, I don't use them for any purpose.

I just like dice. *Big Grin*
